John Conway's Game of Life

When I first came upon this "game" I wasn't too impressed, the basic functions of the game and the fact that my patterns just disappeared annoyed me and I couldn't see a point in it. This was of course in the era of 386's when I was in my early teens.

Then I came upon a simple but fun flash that took the Game of Life and made a puzzle game out of it, and in the process taught me the basic rules of the game. Much appreciated and all of a sudden the little annoying app I couldn't understand suddenly made sense.

When I managed to plow through the 42 levels I found myself wanting more and started googling for a more updated Game of Life application.
It took a bit of working but finally I found Golly (on SourceForge). A very well developed and resource friendly application for the wonderful world of Cellular Automata.
